Paying for Meta or TikTok ads from Algeria: what we can state, what stays unclear
No official text says how to pay Meta or TikTok Ads from Algeria. What the Bank of Algeria and regulation 21-01 provide, what remains uncertain, and the questions to put to your bank.
If you sell online, you will want to pay Meta or TikTok. The problem: no official text we have read describes this route for an Algerian business. This article therefore separates what is written from what is reported, and gives you the questions to put to your bank before you spend.
What the texts say
For income from exported services, regulation 21-01 provides that the sums credited to the foreign-currency account are used primarily and exclusively for the needs of the activity. That is a basis for paying for tools or advertising from that money, but the text does not name online advertising: do not present it as an explicit authorisation.
For cards, the press (TSA) reports, from the Bank of Algeria compendium as of 14 May 2026, that Visa, Mastercard and American Express international cards allow payments and withdrawals in foreign currency and international internet transactions. We give this with a reservation, as we have not opened the compendium.
What the travel allowance does not allow: instruction 07-2026 of 13 July 2026 sets 750 euros a year, but for the traveller personally, for a stay of seven days or more. It does not concern advertising.
What remains uncertain
Three points have no written answer in what we read: can an individual’s card pay the advertising costs of a business activity; what is the status of intermediaries who top up an ad account; what to make of virtual cards issued abroad or cryptocurrency payments. Users say on forums that they use these solutions. That is their account, not a rule, and we name no service.
The risks to weigh
With no clear rule, the main risk is being unable to justify the expense: no invoice in your name, no proof of where the currency came from, a payment made to a third party without a contract. Ask yourself whether, in front of your bank or the tax inspection, you could show where the money came from, who was paid and for what. If the answer is no, the solution is too fragile for a business you want to last.
Questions to ask your bank
Put them in writing to your branch or the bank that holds your foreign-currency account, and keep the answer:
- Can my card (or my foreign-currency account) pay for Meta Ads or TikTok Ads for my business, and up to what ceiling?
- What supporting document do you require: the platform’s invoice, a statement, a declaration?
- What fees and exchange rate do you apply?
- If I am an auto-entrepreneur, does the spend go through my foreign-currency account, as described in the article on the foreign-currency account?
