Algeria VAT (TVA) calculator: excl. and incl. tax, 19% and 9%

Go from a price excluding VAT to one including it, or back, at 19% or 9%, and work out the VAT payable for a month (VAT collected minus deductible VAT). Rates come from the tax authority (DGI); the result updates as you type and nothing is sent anywhere.

How VAT is calculated in Algeria

Value added tax (TVA) in Algeria is worked out on the price excluding tax (HT). At the standard rate of 19%, an item priced 10,000 DA before tax carries 1,900 DA of VAT and costs 11,900 DA including tax (TTC). At the reduced rate of 9%, the same base gives 900 DA of VAT and 10,900 DA in total.

To get back to the price excluding tax, divide the tax-inclusive price by 1.19 (or 1.09 at the reduced rate) instead of removing 19% from it. For example 11,900 DA divided by 1.19 is 10,000 DA. Taking 19% off 11,900 would give a wrong figure of 9,639 DA.

The two VAT rates: 19% and 9%

The tax authority (DGI) lists a standard rate of 19% and a reduced rate of 9%, which only covers the operations listed in article 23 of the Turnover Tax Code. The 2026 Finance Law touched that list without changing either rate. The calculator applies the rate you pick, so check the official list to see whether your product or service qualifies for the reduced rate or an exemption (articles 8 to 13 of the same code).

Who charges VAT, and when is it declared?

VAT concerns taxpayers under the real and simplified regimes. According to the DGI, taxpayers under the flat-rate single tax (IFU), auto-entrepreneurs included, are not concerned and invoice with all taxes included and no VAT line.

Under the real regime, VAT collected on sales minus deductible VAT on purchases is declared on form G no. 50 by the 20th of the following month. VAT on an invoice above 1,000,000 DA including tax that was paid in cash cannot be deducted (article 30 of the same code).

Frequently asked questions

What is the VAT rate in Algeria?

The standard rate is 19% and the reduced rate is 9%, according to the DGI. The reduced rate only applies to the operations listed in article 23 of the Turnover Tax Code.

How do I go from a price including VAT to a price excluding VAT?

Divide the tax-inclusive price by 1.19 at the standard rate (1.09 at the reduced rate). 11,900 DA including tax gives 10,000 DA before tax and 1,900 DA of VAT.

Does an auto-entrepreneur have to charge VAT?

No, according to the DGI page on VAT: IFU taxpayers, auto-entrepreneurs included, are not concerned and invoice all taxes included. VAT applies to the real and simplified regimes.

When must VAT be declared and paid?

Under the real regime, the G no. 50 return and the payment are due from the 1st to the 20th of the month after the operations, as shown in the DGI tax calendar.

Can I deduct the VAT on an invoice paid in cash?

Not if the invoice is above 1,000,000 DA including tax and is paid in cash: article 30 of the Turnover Tax Code refuses the deduction. Below that amount the usual deduction rules apply.

Does this tool replace an accountant?

No. It does the arithmetic for the 19% and 9% rates and a simple monthly balance. Special cases (exemptions, deduction prorata, self-assessment on a foreign supplier) are for your tax office or accountant.

Assumptions

  • Standard rate 19% and reduced rate 9% (DGI). The calculator does not decide which rate applies: you choose it.
  • Amounts are rounded to the centime on each line.
  • Receipt stamp duty: nothing up to 300 DA; above that, a rate per 100 DA tranche started (1 DA up to 30,000 DA, 1.5 DA up to 100,000 DA, 2 DA above) applied to the whole amount, with a 5 DA minimum (2025 Finance Law, article 46). No duty on payment by cheque, transfer or electronic means.

Cases not covered

  • Choosing the rate: the list of operations at 9% (CTCA article 23) and exemptions (articles 8 to 13, widened by the 2026 Finance Law).
  • Deduction prorata, special regimes, self-assessment on a foreign supplier, refund or carry-forward of a credit.
  • Taxes other than VAT (TIC, TLS, TPP) and customs duties.
