YouCan vs Shopify vs WooCommerce for an Algerian store: official prices dated 29 October 2026
Subscription prices from the official pages of YouCan, Shopify and WooCommerce, dated, plus what we found on card payments in Algeria and cash on delivery. No invented figures.
If you are about to open an online store in Algeria, three names come up: YouCan (a subscription platform with cash-on-delivery tools), Shopify and WooCommerce (free plugin on WordPress). Most comparisons online repeat numbers from each other. This one only uses what the official pages showed on 29 October 2026, and says what they do not tell you. Prices move: check the page before you pay.
Prices on the official pages
All three are priced in US dollars. We do not convert them here: use the DZD converter at the rate you will actually pay, and read paying for Meta and TikTok ads from Algeria because paying any dollar subscription raises the same question.
| YouCan | Shopify | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | Solopreneur: $29 a month ($290 a year) | Basic: $29 a month | Plugin free |
| Next plans | Starter $49, Entrepreneur $89, Premium $149 a month (price read on 1 November 2026) | Grow $79, Advanced $299, Plus from $2,300 a month | none: you buy hosting and extensions |
| Limits on the entry plan | 1 user, up to $50K monthly sales, 3.5K orders | not compared here | no platform limit |
| Hosting | not itemised on the page | not itemised on the page | yours to choose: vendor estimate $25 to $350 a month |
| Extra costs shown | transaction-based model instead of a subscription (see below); $2 activation fee | none shown on the pricing page | extensions: $29 to $299 a year each (vendor estimate) |
Notes on the table:
- YouCan has two pricing models. Subscription: the plans in the table, from $29 to $149 a month. Transaction based: no subscription, but 0.5% on cash on delivery orders and 1% on online payments up to $5,000 in sales, then 0.25% and 0.5% above that. Its terms add a $2 activation fee and say all fees are payable in US dollars. YouCan’s help center says transaction fees also apply on top of a subscription, while the terms describe 0.5% “unless” you choose a subscription: ask YouCan in writing what you will pay on the model you pick.
- Shopify shows an offer of 3 days free then $1 a month for 3 months, and a “Pay yearly” switch. We did not confirm whether the prices above are monthly-billed or yearly-billed prices.
- WooCommerce is free software, but you pay for the server, a domain, themes and extensions, and you run updates and security yourself. The $25 to $350 a month and $29 to $299 a year figures are the vendor’s own estimates, not independent ones.
A simple list-price comparison for one year, entry plans only: YouCan $290 a year if you pay annually ($348 monthly), Shopify $348 if the price shown is monthly, and WooCommerce $300 to $4,200 for hosting alone at the vendor’s range. It is arithmetic on published prices, not a quote.
The Algeria question: getting paid
For most Algerian shops, cash on delivery still carries the sales (see real cost per delivered parcel). On this point:
- YouCan lists tools built for it on its features page: COD order management from lead to confirmation and shipping, a Google Sheets integration, an express checkout form on the product page, pixel integrations and abandoned-cart emails.
- Shopify supports manual payment methods, including cash on delivery: the order is marked unpaid until you mark it paid, and Shopify says it charges no third-party transaction fee on manual payments. Confirmation calls and carrier handoff are your job or an app’s (we did not review apps).
- WooCommerce works with whatever payment gateway or COD extension you install. We did not read anything on Woo’s official pages about cash on delivery, so test it before you commit.
For card payments, two plain facts from official pages: Shopify Payments and WooPayments are only available to businesses in their lists of supported countries, and Algeria is on neither list. Shopify says that if your country is not listed you must use a third-party payment provider. For online card payment in Algeria see CIB, Edahabia, SATIM and Chargily.
How to choose without guessing
- Do you sell mostly cash on delivery? Then compare how each tool handles order confirmation, not just the monthly price. Our COD confirmation scripts and return reduction article show what the tool has to support.
- Check your real margin first with the COD profit calculator: compare the subscription with your returns and delivery fees.
- Count the work. WooCommerce means you choose and maintain your own hosting and WordPress site. For YouCan and Shopify, ask exactly what the plan includes.
- Ask each vendor three things in writing: does it work with an Algerian carrier, how do I accept an Algerian card or Edahabia, and what is the final monthly cost in my currency.
- Mind the law. Whatever the platform, the seller is bound by law 18-05: register, show your identity and prices, give a contract, take back faulty goods.
What we could not confirm
- Whether any of the three has a working integration with Algerian carriers, or accepts CIB or Edahabia, is not stated on the official pages we read.
- Whether YouCan’s transaction fees are added to a subscription (its help center and its terms say different things), and whether Shopify’s displayed prices are monthly or yearly.
- Anything on the platforms’ app stores and third-party extensions.
We read the official pages only; no competitor blog figures were used. Prices were read on 29 October 2026, and YouCan’s were read again on 1 November 2026; they may have changed.

- To verify YouCan has two pricing models. The transaction-based model (“Transaction based” tab) takes 0.5% on cash on delivery orders from $0 to $5,000 in sales then 0.25%, and 1% on online payments then 0.5%; its terms set a $2 activation fee, then 0.5% of sales billed every 30 days “unless” the user chooses a monthly subscription plan, all fees payable in US dollars. The help center says instead that transaction fees also apply on top of a subscription and still shows Premium at $187: the exact combination is to be confirmed.

- Verified Shopify Payments is available only to businesses located in its list of supported countries; Algeria is not on the list. If your country is not listed, you must use a third-party payment provider (Shopify Help Center).
- Verified Shopify supports manual payment methods, including cash on delivery; orders are marked unpaid until you mark them paid; Shopify says it charges no third-party transaction fees for manual payments.
- Verified WooCommerce: the core plugin is free, with no platform fee or revenue share; the vendor estimates hosting at $25 to $350 a month for most stores and extensions at $29 to $299 a year each. These are the vendor’s own estimates.
- Verified WooPayments is available only to businesses registered in its supported countries (38 on the product page); Algeria is not in the list we read.
